3 Secrets to Keeping Your Summer Cool
From Health Expressions
It's summer! Finally, it's time to relax, kick back and stress out? Climbing temperatures, busy schedules and vacation plans often can cause more anxieties than summer bliss. This summer, keep your cool with these tips to staying balanced, happy and stress-free.
  • Simplify your routine.

Don't overbook each weekend with activities and chores. Leave time just to be spontaneous, and don't feel guilty if you skip cleaning the house for one weekend and spend time at your local pool instead. You'll start to de-stress the more you simplify your life.

    Take a local vacation.

Take a week off work, and clear the kids' schedules: It's time to go on a great vacation, all from the comfort of your own hometown. Spend a few days going to a local amusement park, visiting your city zoo (if they are nearby) or renting a boat for an afternoon on a nearby lake or river. Then spend the rest of your vacation keeping cool indoors by visiting the library for a fun day of reading new books and magazines, or set up a home theater in your living room, complete with popcorn and cozy seating, to watch several movies back-to-back. With a local vacation, you'll find new, exciting activities right in your neighborhood, all without the stress and hassle of arranging a week away.

    Reinstate date night.

Summertime means summer romance with your spouse. Pick a night each week to spend time together and explore all of the fun date options that summer has to offer. Enjoy the sunset together from your back porch. Share an ice cream cone and walk around town while you eat it. Check out that new bistro and sit on the patio. Take a summer-evening drive and maybe see a drive-in movie. You'll reconnect while you enjoy the season.

When you take the time to relax and enjoy the laid-back nature of summer, you'll feel your stresses melting away. So enjoy more of these moments with your family and friends, and don't let stress spoil your summer fun.
