Jackie Shawn’s Tips for Today's Red-Lip Looks

Follow these steps:
  • Prepare your lips by exfoliating them and then applying a lip balm.
  • Apply lip liner following the natural shape of your lips.
  • Fill in your lips with a "happy" red (which is a red/orange) in a semi-moist lipstick.

If you are in your:

20s: Try a matte finish and wear a red/orange lip gloss.
30s: Wear a semi-moist lipstick with optional gloss.
40s: Simply stain the lip by applying the lipstick with your finger.
50s and 60s: Your lips might be drier, so apply a lipliner all over the lip, then apply the lipstick.

The holidays are your time to shine. Follow these expert beauty tips and you’ll be lighting up the season all on your own —  no light strings required.
Tip 1: Add sparkle to your locks.

Tuck rhinestone-studded hair clips into your tresses, or try a sparkling hair band.

Tip 2: Dangle some dazzle.

Try a pair of chandelier earrings or dangling crystals to catch the light.

Tip 3: Twinkle up your toes.

Look for pumps with a sparkling metallic finish or a jewel-studded accent to put some lightness in your step.

Tip 4: Up the glam with an up-do.

The holidays are a great time to experiment with new styles. Follow how-to steps for a rumpled bun from Aussie®.

Tip 5: Flirt with ruby-red lips.

"Red lips are a chic look for holidays," says celebrity makeup artist Jackie Shawn. "Influenced by the 40's, a red lip can work for all ages with modification."

Tip 6: Sensationalize your eyes.

A sultry shadow treatment is easy to pull off when you follow Jackie Shawn's no-fail method:
  • Using a black pencil liner, work from the inner to outer corner of the upper lash line using small strokes. Smudge this line using a cotton swab.
  • Line the inner lower lash line, working outward. Smudge with a cotton swab.
  • Apply metallic gray shadow over the entire upper lid, right up to the brow bone, concentrating the color at the lash line.
  • Blend, blend, blend.
