What Is Iams® Home 4 the Holidays®?
Iams Home 4 the Holidays is a pet-adoption drive that takes place each holiday season. The program strives to match orphaned dogs and cats with loving families and lifelong homes.
How Has This Program Grown?
This initiative began in 1999 at the Helen Woodward Animal Center in San Diego. The center recruited 13 other animal centers in the San Diego area to participate in matching orphaned pets with loving families. The result? More than 2,500 orphaned pets found homes.
- In 2000, five states and 130 shelters participated in Iams Home 4 the Holidays. More than 20,000 pets found homes.
- In 2001, Diane Keaton became the celebrity spokesperson for this program. With her help, 450 shelters in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico helped find homes for more than 100,000 pets.
- Since the program began, it has continued to grow and has broken all previous records for pet adoption. Iams Home 4 the Holidays has now found homes for more than 3 million orphaned animals, making it the largest and most successful pet-adoption drive in history.
Kristopher Parlett, who works in the pet-care department of Procter & Gamble, has seen this program prosper. He says, “More people bring pets into their homes during than holidays than other times of year. Iams Home 4 the Holidays raises awareness for adoption as a primary option, giving orphaned pets a better chance of sharing joy with their new families.”
This year, Iams Home 4 the Holidays has set a goal of 1.5 million pet adoptions. The program kicked off on October 1 and runs until January 4, 2010. Academy Award® winning actress Hilary Swank has stepped up as the celebrity spokesperson.
