Truth or Myth: Standing Too Much Can Cause Varicose Veins

Truth.
Although genetics, age and gender play a large part in whether or not you develop varicose veins, the increased pressure from standing for long periods of time can worsen the veins in your legs and feet. For most people, these spider veins are simply a cosmetic concern, but they can cause pain or lead to more serious health problems, such as surface ulcers. To lessen the appearance and effect of varicose veins, try exercises such as walking, bicycling and swimming, and avoid wearing tight clothing or high heels for prolonged periods.
