Atop woven sweaters and warm turtlenecks shines the centerpiece of your unique "look": your face. Protecting your skin from cold, dry air and wind that sap moisture should be a part of your winter beauty routine. But how can you prevent the chapping, cracking and uncomfortable tightness? Try these tips to get your skin winter-ready and keep it looking youthful and healthy all season long.
Don't forget the sunscreen.
You may be bundled from head to toe when outdoors, but your fragile facial skin still needs protection from the sun's rays. Use moisturizer or foundation with at least SPF 15 every day. If you're hitting the slopes, wear a higher-SPF sunscreen to prevent a nasty sunburn from the sun's reflection off the snow. And don't forget about your lips: Use a lip balm with SPF 15 or higher.

Find the right moisturizer.
Drying wind and recycled indoor air can have even those with oily skin searching for hydrating skin care. But what type of moisturizer should you use? Ask yourself if you need heavy-duty moisture or something lighter. Also, be sure to use a noncomedogenic lotion to help avoid breakouts. Your dermatologist can provide you with a diagnosis of your skin and steer you in the right direction. Ask for her advice and tips to decipher complicated ingredient labels.

Don't drain the hot-water tank.
A long, hot shower may be irresistible on a cold winter day, but the natural moisturizing lipids it strips from your skin are nearly irreplaceable. Take shorter, warm showers, and lightly pat your skin dry. Applying moisturizer while your skin is still damp helps to trap in the water moisture.

Humidify your surroundings.
If your heating system doesn't have a humidifier, consider buying a humidifier for your home. Humidifiers help keep your skin from drying out and also can help prevent chapped lips and dry, itchy eyes.

Drink plenty of water and green tea.
Remember, water is the first secret to beautiful skin, so make sure you're drinking at least eight glasses daily. To warm up on a chilly day and add radiance to your skin, have a cup of hot green tea. Green tea contains powerful antioxidants that may help decrease some negative effects of aging on the body. Tea time, anyone?
