Make Over Your Bedroom This Weekend — on a Budget!

Make Over Your Bedroom This Weekend — on a Budget!
Try a departure from the ordinary in your bedroom. Traditional? Maybe add some romantic florals.
Ready for a refreshing change of space? "The beauty of redoing a bedroom is that it's typically not overwhelming in terms of space," says author and decorator Heather Paper. "So a weekend redo is perfectly achievable."
Check out our budget interior decorating tips that you can do this weekend with cash to spare. From home decorating ideas to room décor, our bedroom decorating ideas will lift your spirits. Come nest with us — here’s how to get going:

1. Choose a style or theme.

Try a departure from the ordinary in your bedroom. Traditional? Maybe add some romantic florals. Minimalist or modern? Perhaps some exotic Asian or French provincial touches would be exciting. Go out on a limb. Build your choices around your theme.

2. Let new linens anchor your look.

The first step to your weekend makeover is finding fresh bed linens. "Add some pattern or pizzazz to the room with a new comforter and a matching pair of shams," Paper says. "You'll find designer styles in every price range, even at discount stores."

3. Make your own affordable tabletop squares.

Follow these steps:

• At a material store, purchase 1.5 yards of an inspiring pattern that complements your comforter colors.
• Fold over and iron down edges of your material square with iron-on hemming tape to create an inexpensive table topper.

4. Complement your look with curtains.

"Customize an inexpensive pair of curtain panels to suit your personal style," Paper says. "Add jumbo rickrack or some other flat trim along the curtain's inside and bottom edges."

5. Enhance the mood with a coat of paint.

Paper explains, "For no more than the cost of a gallon or two — and a little elbow grease — you can transform a room." Select a color that plays off your comforter selection and creates a unifying and soothing tone.

6. Rearrange to refresh.

Reposition beds, side tables, chairs and other pieces for a refreshing change that doesn’t cost a dime.

7. Add drama with lighting.

Assess your room — could it use more light? Home décor stores, thrift shops and export stores have cheap and chic choices that can complement your theme.

8. Beautify your storage.

Corral bedside books in baskets. Let old china or mismatched dinner items hold bedside items such as nail polish, nail files and lotions. Look around your house. Get creative.

9. Welcome some wall décor.

Switch out your paintings to match your new color scheme. Or shop your other rooms for pieces that might enjoy a sojourn to the bedroom.

10. Relax and congratulate yourself.

It’s your personal retreat, so you’ll enjoy your accomplishments on a daily basis.

Enjoy the fruits of your work with a nice nap. Congratulations — you've enhanced your home for less.
