Extraordinary Beauty for Everyday Life

You may see them on the runway or on the covers of fashion magazines, but it's sometimes tough to tell how the latest from the likes of Prada and Dolce & Gabbana can translate into your day-to-day wardrobe. But you can keep your look current and affordable by making just a few key changes.

So What's New?

"The 'in' look for spring 2006 is a beauty look that is fresh, natural and simple to achieve," says Cheryl Hudgins, associate director for Global Communications, P&G Beauty, the principal sponsor of Milan Fashion Week in February. "With minimalist looks primarily featured on the runways, the beauty look for spring is meant to make a more subtle statement and complement these fashion looks."

The look for 2006 gives center stage to everything from neutrals to jewel tones, and classic lines to flowing, ruffling and romantic silhouettes. Lace and white are the signature elements for spring, cropping up in everything from tailored blouses to tunics to skirts.

So when you're on the go, why not pair a crisp, white cotton blouse with blue jeans and fun flats for everyday errands? Or add a prairie-inspired skirt with lace accents to a comfortable cotton T-shirt for a casual and current look?

For less casual outings, look for knee-skimming, tailored skirts with nautically influenced striped tops and double-breasted jackets for a shapely and up-to-date ensemble. In slacks, both the wide-leg and peg-leg looks get play this season, but don't forget balance! Remember — if your slacks are sleek, add some fullness in your top with a tunic or full-sleeved blouse. With wide-legged pants, trim up your top with a belted jacket or fitted tank.

Accessorize!

This season, accessories go from the demure to the dramatic. Are you looking for a way to quickly update that basic black dress? Add ropes of beads and long, layered chains for impact. Then cinch it up with a wide, complementary belt to complete the look.

Gold makes a comeback this season, after years of taking a backseat to silver. Remember your mother's rule that you never blend gold and silver? Forget it! Blend the two for a shimmering look that helps you incorporate the new with the old.

Don't forget to complete your look with an "It" bag. Set aside your conservative purses and look for outsized bags with wide straps and details to spare — and you'll have plenty of room to carry everything you need!

Shoes are putting in an appearance as accessories in 2006, so keep an eye open for footwear with flair. Whether you're wearing comfortable sandals or flats, or flashier heels, look for panache in buckles or wrap-around ankle straps, or stacked and chunky heels that add height and drama.
